2 hours duration ★ Private tours available
$80 for adults, $60 for youth under 12 (children under 2 free) Join us for a snowshoe hike through the boreal forest just outside Fairbanks, Alaska. We will start and end at our cozy little one room cabin, where you will get to see what dry cabin living is all about. Here we will learn about snowshoes and check on cold weather gear, supplementing as needed. Next we will get everyone set up with a pair of snowshoes and trekking poles. Once everyone is comfortable with their setup and clothing layers, we will head out onto the trails to discover the treasures of the forest.
On our snowshoe walk you will explore the boreal forest, moving through birch and spruce trees, including seeing iconic Alaskan dwarf spruce. We will walk through a winter wonderland looking for animal tracks, learning about local plant uses, and how plants and animals survive life in the cold. It may be winter but there are still birds, mammals, and plants to be found! This is your experience and we are happy to customize it to suit your needs. Trails are chosen depending on the abilities and interests of your group. If you want an exploratory nature hike, a quiet meditative walk in the woods, or a fast paced hike with some off trail explorations, just let us know! |
During our wander in the woods feel free to ask questions about the Alaskan lifestyle or boreal habitat. We are happy to share our experiences living in Alaska, hunting, working, and adventuring in Alaskan villages and bush. We will also take a break during our snowshoe trek for a cup of herbal tea (locally foraged by Shannon). If you are missing your four-legged friend at home, my dog Cooper is happy to give you some attention and loves a good ear rub (He's also happy to lounge on his bed if you would rather not interact with him).
Come see what simple Alaskan living is all about and why snowshoeing is such an important part of travel in the North!

**We will generally not be spending time inside our cabin as part of tours. As much as I love to share the cabin with folks, it is snug and hard to keep warm and dry with folks going in and out. Please dress warmly as I currently do not have another place for you to get out of the cold. As a dry cabin dweller I do not have plumbing so my restroom is an outhouse. It is a very nice space, but if you prefer not to bare your bum in the cold please plan ahead! I apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding!
